Illustration for "True Courage", c. 1840's.
TRUE COURAGE. English, Air (3/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "True Courage" is one of songwriter and composer Charles_Dibdin's (1745-1814) famous patriotic sea songs, written in 1798. The multi-talented Dibdin was one of the most popular and influential creative forces in the late 18th century British stage. :

If my maxim’s disease, ‘tis disease I shall die on,–
You may snigger and titter, I don’t care a damn!
In me let the foe feel the paw of a lion,
But the battle once ended, the heart of a lamb.
