TUNBRIDGE CASTLE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The original Tonbridge Castle was erected following the Norman invasion and held for a few hundred years by thede Clare family. Itwas not lived in between 1521 and the late 18th century, except for a short period during the English Civil War, however, around 1793 (not long after the tune was published by the Thompsons) a mansion was constructed abutting themedieval gatehouse, the most prominent surviving part of the castle.
