TUNES FROM HOME SCHOTTISCHE (Hemlands Toner). AKA - "Gamle Ole Mattis" (Old Ole Mattis Schottische)," "Gamal Svensk Schottische," "Midsommar Dansen". American (originally Swedish), Schottische (whole time). USA. G Major ('A' a,d 'B' parts), C Major ('C' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'AA'CC'. The melody is a Scandinavian (Swedish?) schottische that entered fairly intact into American Mid-West fiddling tradition, popularized by Bob Walters, Lonnie Robertson and others. It was recorded around 1917 or 1918 for Columbia records in New York by an unidentified accordion duo, later recorded in New York for Victor by the Jahrl Instrumental Quartet in 1923. "Gamle Ole Mattie" (Old Ole Mattis Schottische) is a closely related tune, recorded by ethnic Swedish musicians in the U.S. in the 1960's.
