UNCLE GEORGE’S. AKA and see "Cliff Hornpipe." English, Hornpipe (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. South Tawton, Devon, melodeon player Bob Cann (1916-1990) called the tune "Uncle George's Hornpipe," having learned it from his Uncle George, one of his musical mentors. "The [tune] was recorded in 1976 by the Albion Dance Band during the sessions for, but not included in the "Kickin' Up the Sawdust" album, with Jimmy Cooper, hammered dulcimer; Bob Cann, melodeon; Pete Bullock, piano; Graeme Taylor, electric guitar; Ashley Hutchings, bass guitar; Michael Gregory, drums and percussion, They were finally released in 1985 on the Dambuster Records double LP "Buttons & Bows" (together with "Clare Dragoons"), in 1995 on the Ashley Hutchings anthology "The Guv'nor Vol. 2", in 1998 on the Albion Band anthology "The Collection", and in 2004 on "Stepping Up: A History of the New Wave of English Country Dance Music."
