UP AND AWAY [1]. AKA and see “Killoran's Polka (2),” “Mary Girl," "McKenna's Polka," "Merry Girl." Irish, Polka. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. An influential 78 RPM recording of the tune was made in 1934 by flute player John McKenna (1880-1947), originally from County Leitrim (accompanied by playing partner, banjo player Michael Gaffney). This is the second tune in McKenna’s set, following “Up and Away (3),” and is usually known by the title “Mary Girl,” although by association with the medley's title, the name “Up and Away” is also used.
