UP IN THE GARRET I AM. AKA - "Above in the Garret," "Up in the Garret." AKA and see "Hey My Nanny.” Irish, Slip Jig (9/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The British "Hey My Nanny" is a distanced version of this Irish slip jig; there are several versions of the British tune, with the one printed by the Gows being most similar to the one printed by Roche. A Dorian versions exist, with a different second strain, under the titles "Up in a Garret" and "Above in a Garret." Canon wikipedia:James_Goodman_(musicologist) collected the tune in mid-19th century County Cork, although it seems a poor and unrealized version of the melody printed sixty years later by Frank Roche.

See also Goodman's "Follow Me Lads (2)", a variant of "Hey My Nanny", similar primarily in the first strain.
