VAUNTINE. English (?), Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The title is perhaps a variant of vaunting, meaning to be boastful, flaunting, or bragging:

Her cuttysark, o’ Paisley harn,
That while a lassie she had worn,
In longitude tho’ sorely scanty,
It was her best, and she was vauntine.—ROBERT BURNS, “Tam o’ Shanter”
