WAVES OF TORY [3]. AKA – “Waves of Torey.” Irish, Set Dance (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEEFF. The “Waves of Tory” is the name of a set dance (a line dance, rather than a figure dance, with ‘over and under’/’dip and dive’ movements representative of ocean waves) for which many tunes have been the vehicle. Sometimes it is danced to jigs and marches, sometimes to reels and marches, and, unlike other set or ceili dances, it seems to have no signature tune. The ones printed in Allan’s under the “Tory” title start with "Leather Away with the Wattle" and end with “Rose Tree (The).” The set dance has no standard number of figures and can last as long as the dancers.
