WE MUST ALL WAIT TILL MY LADY COMES HOME. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. England, Northumberland. Kidson declares this to be similar to a melody William Shield (1748-1829) uses in his pasticcio opera Robin Hood, or Sherwood Forest for the song “The lasses are mad.” The opera was produced in three acts at London's Covent Gardern in April, 1784, although some of the music may have been composed by other than Shield (as was common practice at the time). Kidson thinks Shield, being from the north of England, may have had knowledge of the tune and so employed it in his work. Kidson obtained the tune from a Northumbrian pipe MS of about 1816. The second part of the tune resembles that of "Cock of the North (1)."
