WHITE POST, THE (Le Poteau Blanc). AKA - "Gigue du poteau blanc." AKA and see "Reel boule de neige (2)." French Canadian, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB’. The tune under this title comes from the repertoire of Joseph Allard [1] (1873-1947), mentor of Montreal fiddle great Jean Carignan. It was listed as a 'Gigue' on Allard's 1928 recording, meaning a tune for dancing. The last measure in the second strain has an extra beat in the first turn in Allard's version. Montreal fiddler Isidore Soucy recorded his version of the tune (more 'crooked', or irregularly metered, than Allard's) in the same month, September, 1928. Soucy's title was "Reel boule de neige (2)" (Snowball Reel).
