WIGMORE'S GALLIARD. AKA – “Collin's Conceit.” English, Country Dance Tune (3/2 of 6/4 time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. A galliard is a lively dance for two people in triple time. This late sixteenth century air appears in William Ballet's Lute Book (c. 1610), but in is mentioned in 1584, when a 'joyful' broadside ballad called for its tune. Chappell (1859) finds reference to the tune in Middleton's Your Five Gallants (1607) where Jack says:
This will make my master leap out of bed for joy,
and dance 'Wigmore's Galliard' about his chamber!
The tune was the vehicle for a number broadside ballads.
