The tune was composed by John Christie, who was the brother of Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire, postmaster, fiddler-composer and dancing master biography:William Christie (1778-1849). There are other compositions of John Christie contained within a c. 1818 manuscript collection [1] that was compiled by William Christie a few years prior his 1820 Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Hornpipes, Waltzes &c., and which forms the basis for that latter work. Regarding the title, John Christie seems to be referring to his brother but whom did William love? His brother, his spouse (Mary Guthrie), his children (James and William), or someone/something else (perhaps his love of dancing)?
