WILLIAM IRWIN'S QUICKSTEP. English, Quickstep or March (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is contained in the c. 1850 music manuscript of Lake District musician William Irwin (No. 47), attributed to himself. The first part is cognate with the French-Canadian "Parti de Saratoga," which in turn is linked to the "Saratoga Quadrilles" composed in the first half of the 19th century. The melody attained some modern popularity after it was recorded on the Cock and Bull Band’s 1981 release “All Buttoned Up.”
