WINSTON AT THE GLENVILLE HALL. Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). Canada, Cape Breton. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’. Paul Stewart Cranford (1995) identifies this tune as coming from a reel-to-reel tape of Inverness fiddler Winston ‘Scotty’ Fitzgerald recorded at a dance in the 1950's. He believes it to be related to the Irish jig “Happy to Meet Sorry to Part." However, although there are structural similarities and melodic relatedness in the first two measures, it is hard to establish a concordance with the Irish tune. Carl MacKenzie recorded the tune under the title "White Point" (Fitzgerald was born at White Point, Cape Breton, in 1915), while Natalie MacMaster and Dave MacIsaac both recorded it as "Winston Fitzgerald's."
