WINTER HILL RETREAT. American, Retreat March (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Winter Hill Retreat" is a retreat melody, at one time played to signal the end of the day's formal military activities at camp. It was entered into the c. 1776-1778 music manuscript collection in the possession of a young fifer named Thomas Nixon. For more information see note for "Winter Hill Troop."
