Mid-19th century Dublin dentist and collector Henry Hudson (1798=-1889) was of the option this tune was of no great antiquity, pointing to the the close of the fourth bar which closes "upon the second of the key with chord of the dominant" as characteristic of "more recent Scotch airs in the north." Irish music usually closes on the "emphatic sixth," he posits. The tune was also entered in volume one (p. 170) of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman.
