YORK HOUSE [2]. English, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Walsh & Hare's The New Country Dancing Master, Third Book (London, 1728), and John Walsh's Third Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master, editions of 1735 and 1754. According to Wikipedia: "York House was traditionally the name given, often temporarily, to houses in London, England occupied by holders of the title of Duke of York." In John Walsh's time, York House was built as a wing of St James's Palace, London, for Frederick, Prince of Wales on his marriage in 1736. He only occupied it for a year, before being quarreling with his father (King George II) so severely that he quit the palace.
