YORKSHIRE LAD, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (4/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The music and dance instructions are to be found in John Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances (vol. 4, 1748). Kidson finds in this tune the "earliest germ" of the more famous "Keel Row (The)" or "Well May the Keel Row" (see note for "Annotation:Well May the Keel Row") and the first strain is quite similar. "Smiling Polly" and "Dumb Glutton (The)" also show strong resemblances to this tune family.
