BEVERLEY ASSEMBLY. English, Reel. England, Northumberland. G Major. Standard tuning. AAB. See note for "Beverley Races." Beverley is in east Yorkshire, and the dance assembly events were probably held during racing season. Another melody by the same name, a jig, appears in J. Johnson's A Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 4 (1748, pg. 32), David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances, vol. 1st (c. 1756, pg. 47), and an untitled manuscript of c. 1770 in the British Library (Addl. 23971). William Vickers' c. 1770-1772 manuscript contains the only appearance of the reel "Beverley Assembly."
