Hugh Dunlop's name is attached as composer to a few tunes in the Kerr's collections, such as "Rob Ralston's Strathspey," "Bob Simms," "Sundrum House (3)," "Willie Donaldson's Hornpipe" and "John Howat's Reel." Dunlop was one of the subscribers to J. Scott Skinner's Miller 'o Hirn (1885) collection, listed as a "Solo Flautist, Sims Reeves’ Concerts, 7 Elmwood Street, Harrogate." He was a Boehm flute and piccolo player at the Opera House, Aberdeen, and was a prominent member and soloist of various bands and ensembles that Skinner put together for a concerts and dress assemblies in the late 1870's at Peterhead, Nairn and Forres, to name a few.
