BLUE BELLS OF CHALLON. AKA and see "Blue Bells of Scotland (1)." English, Air and Dance Tune. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The "Challon" title seems ideosyncratic to ship's fiddler William Litten, who appears to have been a member of the British fleet in the orient around 1802. His music manuscript ended up in the hands of a shipmate, however, and eventually made its way to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts.
Printed source: Huntington (William Litten's), 1977; p 44.
