BONANZA HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole/Ryan): AA'BB' (Cranford). Originally a Spanish word, bonanza means 'prosperity'. It has been used in the United States since 1847 to refer to a rich mine and was perhaps the name of an actual mine in Nevada. The term has been applied to any development (albeit usually economic) in which there have been large or windfall profits.
