BRANGILL OF POICTU, THE. A dance tune from the Skene Manuscript c. 1610-20. It is the melody of the song "We be Three Poor Mariners," in which a line goes:
Shall we go dance the round, the round,
This verse, plus the similarity of the word 'Brangill' in the title strongly suggests the tune was an accompaniment to the dance form called the branle (see note for Branle).
