Source for notated version: "Cronin" [O'Neill]. O'Neill probably refers to Chicago fiddler Edward Cronin, born c. 1838 in Limerick Junction, County Tipperary, where he learned the weavers trade and to play the fiddle. O'Neill valued him for his vast repertoire, and his skill as a dance musician. However, Cronin could be suspicious and boasted that he "never forgot nor never forgave" a perceived slight. O'Neill made weekly visits to Cronin to transcribe tunes for some two years, but then he too managed to arouse Cronin's ire and the sessions were stopped.
