CORNFLOWER WALTZ. English, American, Waltz. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDC. Composed by English composer Charles Coote, and published in the 1850’s or 1860’s. It was in the repertoire of the brass band of the Old Aurora Colony in Oregon, a utopian society with strong musical traditions, founded by German immigrants in 1856. It is one of several tunes common to the Aurora community musicians and the Haynes/Shuck/Adams family musicians, who lived only 22 miles away.
