I play mainly guitar and some mandolin, I don't consider myself "folky" or traditionalist but I fully appreciate if a tune has been popular for a hundred or couple of hundred years, theres a good chance that there is a good reason for it. I find learning tunes extremely difficult so it is likely that any attempt I make at a tune should be looked on as a variant.
