LAMENT FOR LORD BALLENDEN, A. Scottish, Air (3/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). Although John Pringle composed many tunes in his 1801 collection, and identified them as his compositions, this is one of several tunes in his collection that had no composer attribution.

The title Lord Bellenden (note spelling) was a Peerage of Scotland. There were two Lord Bellenden's that Pringle's tune may have referred to: John Ker Bellenden of Broughton , 5th Lord Bellenden (1751–1796) or Robert Bellenden, 6th Lord Bellenden (1734–1797)--the tenure of the latter lasting only a year. See also Gow's "Lord Ballenden."
