JOACK ABOVE ALL JOACKS. Scottish, Country Dance Tune and Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered into the c. 1740 MacFarlane Manuscript, a music manuscript collection by Scottish musician and dancing master David Young. While many of the tunes in the collection had numerous variation sets, "Joack above all Joacks" has but two eight-bar repeated strains. The title refers to the seeming plethora of dance tunes with the word "Joak" in the title, all stemming from the hugely successful melody "Black Joak (The)," many of which preceded the word 'Joak' with a color selection (i.e. "White Joak," "Red Joak," "Green Joak" etc.).
