MRS. HOPE JOHNSTON'S STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by fiddler-composer biography:James Porteous (1762-1847) of Annandale, Dumfries, who also composed "Mr. Hope Johnston's Strathspey." See note for "annotation:Mr. Hope Johnston's Strathspey" for remarks about both titles.
Porteous issued one collection, A Collection of Strathspeys, Reels & Jigs, Respectfully Dedicated to Lady Jardine of Applegarth; Arranged for the Piano Forte, Violin & violoncello by James Porteous (Edinburgh, 1821). "Mrs. Hope Johnston's Strathspey" was entered into the music manuscript collections of John Rook (1840, Waverton, Cumbria) and William Irwin (1838, Lake District).
