SHANAVEST AND COROVOTH [2] (An Sean-bhest 's an Carabhat). Irish, Air (4/4 time). AKA and see "John Doe." D Minor/Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Petrie): AAB (Joyce, Mulvihill). “A faction tune” states Joyce, while Martin Mulvihill notes, “a faction fighting tune of the ‘Cooleens’ and ‘Black Mulvihills.’” See note for “annotation:Shanavest and Caravat (1)" for more. Paul de Grae [1] finds other cognate tunes in George Petrie's collections: "John Doe," "Is iomadha yeóman malluighthe do thill a dhóghadh" (Stanford/Petrie No. 1519), "Réltán leanbhach (An)" (Stanford/Petrie, No. 1520), and Canon James Goodman's "Raelthion Leanabhach (An)."
