MANCHESTER HORNPIPE [4]. English, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is No. 98 in Gibbon's ms. Gibbon's untitled "Hornpipe No. 101" is the melody most traditional musicians recognize as the "Manchester Hornpipe (1)," and is a different tune than his No. 98 given here. It was originally set in the key of 'C' major in Gibbon's ms.

Source for notated version: the 1823-26 music mss. of papermaker and musician Joshua Gibbons (1778-1871, of Tealby, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire Wolds) [Sumner].
