ZIG-ZAG HORNPIPE/CLOG. AKA and see "Fred Wilson's Clog." Irish, Scottish, American; Hornpipe. A popular 19th century clog or hornpipe. See note for "Annotation Fred Wilson's Clog" for more. The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. “Zig-Zag Hornpipe” is one of the ‘100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes’ according to Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden. The tune shares the signal melodic theme of the opening measure of the second strain with numerous other melodies such as "Cincinatti Hornpipe (1)," "Harvest Home (1)," "Dundee Hornpipe," "Standard Hornpipe," "Cork Hornpipe," "Kildare Fancy," "Cliff Hornpipe," "Ruby Lip," "Higgins' Hornpipe," "Kephart's Clog" (Pa.), "Snyder's Jig" (Pa.).
