MURPHY'S (REEL) [3]. AKA and see "Galway Shawl (The)," "Raheen Reel (3)." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Named for County Wexford harmonica player Phil Murphy. However, the tune may be one of Kerry fiddler Dennis "The Weaver" Murphy's tunes. According to Kevin Burke (who played the tune as the last of his "Raheen Medley" set, learned from Murphy and his sons), Phil's son said his father had learned it from Kerry musicians from Dingle, and called it "Dingle Reel (The)" for convenience.

Source for notated version: Bronx flute player Jack Coen, originally from County Galway, who had picked up the tune on holiday in Ireland [Connolly & Martin].

Printed sources: Connolly & Martin (Forget Me Not), 2002; pp. 80-81.

Recorded sources: Green Linnet SIF 1052, Kevin Burke - "Up Close" (1984)
