IRISH HOP JIG. Irish, Hop or Slip Jig (9/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEE. Joyce obtained the tune from the collection of County Cork lawyer John Edward Pigot [1] (1822-1871). The tune is a version of "Long Room of Scarborough (The)," an English country dance tune published in London in 1748. Compare also with "Tea in the Morning."

Source for notated version: The tune was collected by Pigot "from Miss Griffin of Foynes on the Shannon in Limerick, who was evidently a lady of great musical taste with an intimate knowledge of Irish airs" [Joyce].

Printed sources: Joyce (Old Irish Folk Music and Songs), 1909; No. 840.
