The melody appears in the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria, and also in the 1838 music manuscript collection of William Irwin, Lake District, Cumbria (as "James Porteus' Dusting Sieve").
