BROWN PAPER HORNPIPE. AKA - "Johnston's Hornpipe." English, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears in the c. 1835 music manuscripts of Joshua Burnett (Worsborough, South Yorkshire), and G. Huddeswell of Leeds, West Yorkshire. Kidson gives the attribution "by Thos. Pickering, MS 40, p. 27," and notes the 'A' part is very much like "Johnston's Hornpipe." "Ivy Leaf Reel (1)," printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883), and "Smoky Chimney (The)" in Francis O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1903) are cognate reels.
