MONEY MUSK [5]. Irish, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Researchers Conor Ward and Fr. John Quinn find that a four-part "Money Musk" in the c. 1900 manuscript collections of fiddler Philip Reilly of Drumreilly, County Leitrim, is cognate with O'Neill's "Money Musk" (MOI, No. 1361) in the last two parts[1]. They suspect that both versions link to an as-yet unidentified precursor. They also note the general similarity of the the first part of O'Neill's "Money Musk [5]" and the first and third parts of Reilly's version with the reel "Bonny/Bonnie Kate (1)." Reilly also entered another version of "Money Musk" in his mss. collection, close to the standard 'Dow' version of the melody (see "Money Musk (1)").
Additional notes Source for notated version : - Cronin [O'Neill]. Chicago fiddler Edward Cronin, born in County Tipperary in the 1840's, was a member of Chicago's Irish Music Club with O'Neill. Though irascible at times, Cronin provided O'Neill with a rich portfolio of tunes, played with expertise.
