SHIPLEY'S HORNPIPE. English, Hornpipe (cut time). England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by "R.L.", Northumbrian composer, fiddler, and perhaps a piper, Robert Lightfoot of Harlow Hill, near Hadrian’s Wall, whose hey-day was c. 1830-1860. The tune is played as a reel in Northumberland, without the dotted rhythm customary to many hornpipes.
