Composed by William Christie (1778-1849), a dancing master, fiddler and composer from Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire. Sir Archibald Dunbar (1772-1847) was the 6th Baronet of Northfield, Elgin, Scotland, Convener of the county of Elgin from 1813 until his death in 1847. He was also Lieut.-Col. of the Elginshire Militia. Dubar marred Helen, daughter of Col. Sir Alexander Penrose Cumming-Gordon, 1st Baronet of Altyre, who died the year before William Christie ppublished his collection in 1820. A few years later, in 1822, he married Mary, daughter of John Brander, of Pitgaveny, co. Elgin.
